What is matcha, and why is it special?

Matcha is finely ground green tea from Japan, made from shade-grown tea leaves. This process causes the plant to produce more chlorophyll and L-theanine—the amino acid that provides calm, clear energy.

Ceremonial grade matcha can be recognized by its deep green color, creamy texture, and mild, sweet taste. Prepared with a bamboo chasen in a ceramic chawan.
